Research conducted by Groupola has found that those living in cities in the northern UK are the most prolific shoppers in the country.
The study, which surveyed 1,372 people across the UK, discovered that residents of the city of Blackburn prefer to shop online more than those in any other city in the nation.
According to the survey, a full 67 percent of Blackburn residents do the majority of their shopping online. One in five Blackburn respondents stated that they prefer shopping online because they do not have to compete with other shoppers for a salesperson's attention. Another 14 percent like to shop online because they find it "more convenient" than travelling to a store.
Similarly, 61 percent of the city of Leeds prefers online marketplaces to the high street, which puts the West Yorkshire city second on the list of most prolific online shoppers. In Leeds, 31 percent of respondents admitted that they actually disliked shopping on the high street, and 27 percent prefer online shopping because they find it to be less expensive.
Other cities with prolific online shoppers include Nottingham, with 56 percent preferring online shopping; Exeter, with 54 percent; and Ipswich, with 51 percent.
Across the UK, approximately 50 percent of the population currently shops online. Britons have spent around £250 billion online in the last decade, and they are expected to spend another £56 billion this year - or more than £150 million every day.
