A new study has found that Britons are using their free time to shop online - especially their lunch hours.

Research from Star, a communications services firm, found that 72 percent of UK adults spend their lunch hour online, and 62 percent are using that time to shop or bank. In addition, 63 percent use their lunch breaks to send personal emails, and 31 percent log on to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Other workers use their lunch breaks to watch their favourite sports matches and television shows online.

"We believe that the high Internet traffic volumes during the 12:00 to 14:00 hours time frame indicates that employers are taking a liberal approach to allowing employees access to the Internet during the lunch hour for non work-related activities," said Star CEO John Adley.

According to the BBC, recent research from the Society of Physiotherapists also found that a quarter of the 3,000 workers polled actually took no lunch break at all - instead, they worked from their computers while eating.ADNFCR-3398-ID-19918412-ADNFCR
