According to a recently released financial statement, online sales at DSG International rose by 12 percent in the early summer, Internet Retailing reports.

DSG, which is being renamed Dixons Retail, includes the electronics stores Dixons, Currys and PC World. The company reported that multichannel and Reserve & Collect services drove the 12 percent rise in online retail in the 12 weeks to July 24. The company's revenues were also aided by a spike in television sales prior to the World Cup and the company's exclusive deal to sell Apple's iPad when it was released in the UK in July.

The company also helped drive television sales by offering any customers who purchased a television worth £599 or more a cash gift of £10 for every goal scored by England's team in the World Cup.

"This is an encouraging start to the year, especially given the challenging market conditions. Our UK businesses performed particularly well, most notably with customers responding to our strong World Cup promotion and the excellent product ranges on offer," John Browett, DSG CEO, told Internet Retailing.

"The store transformation programme is making rapid progress and continues to improve the shopping trip for customers. Our international businesses have also performed well against competitors in varied market conditions," he added.

In addition to the name change, the company is also refitting hundreds of its brick-and-mortar stores in an effort to help in-store sales keep up with online ones.ADNFCR-3398-ID-19935945-ADNFCR
