In today's online world, it is important for ecommerce professionals to be connected to their enterprises at all times. That's why so many etailers are making the switch to smartphones, like iPhones, Blackberries and Android devices, and making their stores available on these devices. If you're ready to get into the mobile commerce game with an app, which platform should you cater to first? And which one is right for you?

"For most online retailers developing an iPhone app that is more outstanding, more exciting and more downloaded than their rivals, in an increasingly small window of opportunity, seems to be at the forefront of their multi-channel strategies," reports Anna Krahn of The Online Fashion Agency.

But while mobile consumers prefer iPhones, mobile vendors are still sticking to Blackberries, the source continues. Research in Motion's line of popular smartphones includes both touchscreen and physical-keyboard models and appeals to a broad range of professionals. The physical keyboard is a major reason why professionals - who send dozens of emails a day - stay with Blackberries.

However, some etailers report that they're considering switching to the iPhone for its superior mobile browsing experience. And with the recent announcement that the iPhone will soon be available on Verizon's wireless network in the United States, the smartphone is only expected to grow in popularity.
