According to Hostway, ecommerce sales are expected to grow by 14 percent in 2011 - an approximately $188.1 billion increase from last year.
Fueling this boom in online purchases is the use of smartphones for mobile commerce and daily deal sites like Groupon, Jeffrey Grau, eMarketer principal analyst, told the news source.
Groupon, the popular deal-of-day website, serves more than 150 markets in North America and another 100 in Europe, South America and Asia, according to Business Insider.
Techland reports that Groupon's recent decision to collaborate with merchants to host their own deals on Groupon's site, as well as the addition of a "personal deal feed" for Groupon users, will likely be a boon to the ecommerce marketplace.
In addition to its ecommerce predictions, Hostway also found that 83 percent of American internet users aged 14 and older will buy something online, and 76.3 percent of the U.S. population is expected to purchase through ecommerce sites by 2015.
