Ecommerce made strides in 2010, and as merchants become more technologically savvy, the demand for improved features and functionality in their online businesses is expected to grow.

According to ZippyCart, there are four primary expectations merchants hope to see from ecommerce software in 2011: ease of use, a robust feature set, mobile commerce capabilities and actionable reporting tools.

The news source notes that merchants prefer software to have a familiar-looking interface, similar to the way Facebook and Amazon are designed. Programs that look dated tend to have less of an appeal.

Exhibiting popular features like social media options and mobile payment intelligence may prove that a solutions company is on the cutting edge. Businesses that offer online store management via cellphone or near-field communication (NFC) capabilities establish themselves as forward-thinking, according to the news source.

Companies such as Znode, a leading provider of ecommerce software solutions, have experienced pronounced success because of their multi-channel options for merchants.

Tom Brice, Znode COO, explains that his multifont strategy "encompasses more than just multiple storefronts, but also integrates seamlessly with SEO, social media and mobile applications to expand one's online footprint while being cost-effective to manage."

Znode increased its growth by 113 percent in 2010. It should see continued success in 2011, as the demand for multi-channel ecommerce solutions is poised to outpace the annual growth of online commerce.
