Zippy Cart insists that consumers should be wary when adding items to their online shopping carts, due to charity scams cropping up in the wake of the earthquake and subsequent tsunamis in Japan.

The media source mentions Lady Gaga, who personally designed a "prayer bracelet" in response to the tragedy. She coerced her millions of Twitter followers to add the bracelets to their shopping carts via her official online store, the proceeds of which benefited tsunami relief.

However, not all charitable donations necessarily go towards a good cause.

The Huffington Post reports that scam artists have attempted to make a quick buck off of the donations of consumers.

Norman Wright of the Northwest Florida Better Business Bureau (BBB) recommends that people take their time and do research before making any online donations. "Unfortunately, we've seen that scammers will try to take advantage of the generosity of the public after a disaster," Wright told the news source.

He suggests utilizing the BBB's charity research website, and to avoid clicking on email links, even if they appear tied to legitimate charitable organizations.
