Universities in the United Kingdom will receive cloud computing services from @UK for the next five years, according to Sharecast.
The cloud ecommerce marketplace was recently awarded a five-year contract from the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), a non-profit group that aims to position the U.K. as a global leader in education through the use of digital technologies. The deal was worth £1m, the news source adds.
JISCs website explains that the company develops partnerships to enable the UK education and research communities to engage in national and global collaborations.
Stockmarketwire reports that @UK was awarded the project to deploy a single contract management system and integrated ecommerce marketplace through much of the higher education sector.
As a result of this agreement, @UK saw its shares jump by 14.71 percent in the London Stock Exchange, Sharecast notes.
"We are absolutely delighted to have won our largest contract to date and excited about working with the further and higher education sectors to help them to implement genuine ecommerce and save money," Ronald Duncan, @UK chairman, told the media outlet.
