B2C explains that because internet consumers have so many options to choose from, a company's website needs to stand out in some way to be noticed and increase online sales.

The website recommends three primary pillars for gaining website traffic - real-time content, superior customer interaction and linking to popular sites.

In order to entice customers to communicate on a site, website owners may want to deploy options like running a poll, awarding free giveaways or sending out a company newsletter. Additionally, response time matters. Answering customer questions and emails immediately is an excellent way to turn a visitor into a client, the media outlet explains.

Additionally, there are numerous options a website owner can choose from to effectively market and promote a URL. Social networking is an obvious choice - by linking the site to Facebook or Twitter, a website can instantly be vaulted into prominence. Furthermore, offering to be a guest blogger on similar sites can increase exposure, while developing a reputation in the site's niche function on Yahoo! Answers can build respect in one's field.

CTV adds that video also can be used to enhance a company's website. According to a Cisco research study, in 2010, 30 per cent of all internet traffic was video content - and that number is projected to reach 90 per cent by 2013.
