Although the proposed European Union Consumer Rights Directive has been met with resistance from many ecommerce retailers, the CEO of Feelunique.com thinks the legislation may make it easier for some companies to operate, including his.

According to a recent Retail Gazette report, one of the worries from the ecommerce industry is that the new legislation will require companies pay the costs for returned goods. Also, retailers will be required to ship products to all members of the union based on its feasibility.

Aaron Chatterly, CEO of Feelunique, said that commerce companies that do not ship faulty or mis-sold products should not be worried. Furthermore, retailers should embrace the fact that they can expand their market and ship to all members of the European Union.

"Why wouldn’t any retailer want to ship to other member states if it increases the size of their market?" said Chatterly. "They can still charge whatever shipping charges they like to cover the extra distance."

While the new legislation may help ecommerce companies expand their sales through online payment gateways, a recent study by Shopatron revealed that retail-integrated ecommerce generates more revenue than traditional methods.
