According to a recent Econsultancy report, if approached and executed correctly, replatforming can prove beneficial to ecommerce companies, especially if a website needs tweaking due to technological advancements in the industry.

Replatforming is a process that ecommerce companies move from one platform to another and can be difficult for web developers. According to the report, businesses considering implementing a replatforming strategy should make sure all their costs are accounted from the start, so unexpected issues will be avoided.

"Make sure you are clear about what you want from your new site and the requirements you have now (and in the future)," said Econsultancy's Ben Staveley. "Also ensure that the company you work with uses wireframes so that you are clear about how functionality will work before sign-off."

Ecommerce companies should also consider all options to determine which service best fits their needs, the report stated.

As more consumers purchase products through online payment gateways, small businesses have an opportunity to capture more consumer payments. According to a recent Noobpreneur.com report, small businesses can establish an ecommerce presence with fewer upfront costs than traditional brick-and-mortar stores and are more accessible to their customers.
