The retail industry is only becoming more competitive with the extension of most stores into the digital landscape. The new forms of communication and marketing options created unique ways to campaign products and engage customers.
Media Post recently identified trends and insights into this year's back-to-school campaigns that many retailers are experimenting with to boost sales in an uncertain economy.
According to the news source, many consumers are shopping with their friends for support, except the friends are not in the stores with them. Using smartphones, consumers are taking pictures of items online and sending them to friends for their feedback before making a purchasing decision.
In response, e-retailers have started developing mobile applications that allow consumers to upload a photo of themselves and digitally try on outfits to see what they look like on. They can then share the image with their friends and receive responses to the potential buy, the source reported.
Just-Style reported that 3D technology has made its mark in the retail industry by enhancing advertisements, online fitting rooms and fashion shows. Known as online fit technology, using 3D tools can help online retailers reduce returns while increasing sales. The technology currently requires a body scanned image to be loaded to the site, which can then be used as a virtual avatar to try on different apparel items and see the look from all angles.
