Amazon recently announced it will launch order collection lockers in London shopping centres. After reaching an agreement with shopping centre owner Land Securities, the online retailer plans to install the lockers in numerous properties throughout the London area, including lockers in One New Change expected to go live in the next week.
According to Retail Week, the adoption of Amazon lockers in the U.K. follows a recent move by the retailer to place similar lockers in U.S. 7-Eleven stores around the Seattle area. The lockers will enable customers to pick up their orders at the sites rather than wait at home for the delivery.
The "click and collect" sites are expected to be popular with office workers in the capital city who would rather receive packages throughout the workday than after work, or be forced to take a day off to accept their packages. To access the delivered goods, customers will be given a personal code to open the locker, the news source reported.
While Amazon will be making its physical debut on high street, the retailer's online and mobile strategy will continue to drive in customers. A recent study from Vision Research found 66 percent of iPhone users and 47 percent of all consumers surveyed said that physical retailers were not reaching out to consumers via mobile technology compared to companies like Amazon and eBay, Retail Gazette reported.
