A recent report from Kelkoo found online retailer Amazon is the U.K.'s best brand. Amazon won top awards in four out of 10 categories including value, customer service, delivery and online shopping experience.

The online retailer claimed the No. 1 spot after showing consistently high marks across all the categories, beating out other large retailers such as John Lewis department store group and Tesco, the leading grocery store in the U.K. Chief Marketing Officer for Kelkoo, Chris Simpson, said it is not surprising that an internet-only brand would be in the top 10, as the e-commerce sector continues to grow in the U.K. and abroad. Similar to Amazon, another U.K. online retailer, Play.com, offers DVDs and movies to consumers, but was recently purchased by Rakuten in an effort to gain a larger share of the British e-commerce market.

"The online retail sector is expected to grow by 14 percent this year, 10 times more than the high street at 1.4 percent so it makes sense for such an established and successful online retailer to feature highly with so many people," Simpson

When asked in the study what persuaded them to shop with different retailers, 54 percent of British consumers said the value for their money was the most influential factor, followed by the deals and offers available through the retailer. Shoppers cited trustworthiness and customer service as other leading attributes that help determine which retailer to purchase from.

Amazon is the 25th largest U.K. retailer in terms of sales and was the lone online-only retailer to make the top 10 rankings in the report. The U.K. Manager for Kelkoo, Mark Haupt, said consumers are starting to realize the opportunities and offers available through Amazon, and are shopping through the retailer more readily. Amazon is now being compared to high street retailers in the minds of consumers, Haupt said.
