Shutl, a home delivery startup offering options for internet shoppers, recently announced it will provide delivery service to six more U.K. cities including Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool. Shutl enables online shoppers to receive online purchases from high street retailers in 90 minutes, or within a one-hour window, that same day or another day.
The company is able to provide this fast and convenient service by fulfilling online orders through local store inventory rather than a centralised warehouse located farther away. Shutl decided to expand its consumer reach in anticipation of increased online purchases for the Christmas season.
Tom Allason, founder and CEO of Shutl, told the Financial Times the company has expanded to towns that spend more online than other British cities. The next growth move he expects will target the M4 corridor.
"Our goal is to have sufficient coverage by November to give high street retailers a significant competitive edge over Amazon and the other pure-play e-tailers this Christmas," Allason told the source.
According to Tech Crunch, a delivery from Shutl can cost as little as £4.95, while Amazon's Evening Delivery service in London and Birmingham costs £14.99 and only offers a three-hour window in which customers can expect their orders to be delivered.
