A recent study from Sybase 365 found 62 percent of consumers are prepared to make purchases from their mobile devices this holiday season if prompted by coupons, discount offers, text alerts, gift cards or loyalty points. This figure is almost twice as much as the 32 percent of consumers who said mobile incentives would drive purchases from their mobile devices in 2010.

Without coupons or other incentives, 56 percent of consumers would use their device for various shopping tasks, with 38 percent using their device to locate a store, 34 percent to compare prices, 28 percent to research deals and coupons, 27 percent to find a product review and 22 percent to make a purchase, the study discovered.

In addition, a recent report from IBM found iPads and other mobile devices are being used by more consumers this year, as mobile device traffic is expected to more than double this November holiday shopping season. The report predicted 15 percent of online shoppers will view retailers' websites via mobile devices, with all online shopping in November to grow between 12 and 15 percent compared to the same month in 2010.

Econsultancy stated that the majority of the U.K.'s top online retailers have adopted mobile commerce solutions, including Tesco, Amazon and ASDA. The source said 36 of the top 47 retailers have a mobile-optimised website or a smartphone app, and 21 of the 47 have both an optimised site and an app.
