Research from Experian Marketing Services analysed online traffic and retail email data to address expected trends for online shoppers during the week before Cyber Monday. The time period is considered Peak Week, and the data indicated significantly increased online traffic and email transactional activity can be expected throughout the week.

Basing the predictions on data from 2009 and 2010, the source found online traffic to the top 500 retail sites increased 5 percent during Peak Week in 2010 compared to 2009. In addition, 2010 email volume increased 26 percent during the seven-day period compared to 2009. Online searches for Black Friday deals started occurring in mid-October in 2010, and has been starting earlier each year for the past three years.

Peak Week 2010 saw a 13 percent increase in online traffic on Black Friday compared to 2009, and Black Friday was the second-biggest day for online email transactions in 2010, according to the Experian report.

In line with the rising trend of online shopping, Punch Taverns recently reported 21 percent of its sales have been generated online since the deployment of its business-to-business ecommerce site. The online portal enables pubs to order beer and other supplies from Punch Taverns, allowing the company to deliver products to more than 5,000 pubs in its estate.
