Online shopping encourages bargain hunting

A recent survey from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks found U.K. shoppers are conscious of their spending when purchasing online, as they hunt for the least expensive prices and most affordable delivery services available.

According to the survey, 47 percent of U.K. consumers look for the best deals when shopping online, and 52 percent of female consumers are seeking a bargain compared to 40 percent of male consumers. Even as the economy struggles, only one-third of consumers reported they are cutting back on holiday shopping this year, but rather most shoppers hope to purchase the same number of items at discounted prices.

"The U.K.'s festive spirit needn't be dampened because knowing you've found a bargain makes giving that present a little more special come Christmas Day," said Steve Reid, retail director for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks.

One online retail service offering significant savings for U.K. consumers is DiscountVouchers. The online deal provider recently launched a number of discount codes for Debenhams, including 10 percent off fashion and home products or 40 percent of women's dresses. The online coupon site is also adding codes for Marks and Spencer, Miss Selfridge, Sainsbury's, Travelodge and Tesco.
