Online retailers are reporting high sales of electronic goods from customers looking for extra discounts by using voucher codes.

The Office for National Statistics reported electrical goods retailers have experienced a 40.2 percent increase in online purchases in 2011 compared to 2010. Younger shoppers, in particular, are driving online sales, thanks to the promotions and discounts available through online voucher codes.

“We all know that the current generation are particularly savvy when it comes to technology and electrical products so companies maybe need to take advantage of this by gearing their products more towards this market with the power of discount codes helping to drive sales upwards,” said a Voucher Mole spokesperson.

Further, research from ResearchBods, commissioned by Retail Gazette, showed more than half of U.K. parents are buying Christmas toys online. The survey reported 53 percent of parents plan to purchase their children's holiday gifts online, to take advantage of discounts and convenience.

"There are a variety of reasons why parents are choosing online but it is striking that across all income scales and age groups of parents, online remains the favourite place to shop for toys," said Robin Hilton, co-founder for ResesarchBods.
