Postal services all over the world handled larger-than-normal parcel volumes this past holiday season, as more shoppers opted to purchase from online stores for convenience and discounts.
According to Post and Parcel, many delivery services reported record breaking numbers at the end of 2011, illustrating the rising population of online shoppers. MetaPak in the U.K. reported a 30 percent growth in ecommerce volumes in December compared with the same month in 2010.
Claire Biggs from MetaPak told the source that the delivery service was receiving orders from online stores at all hours leading right up to Christmas morning.
"This indicates that not only are people buying gifts online but also making use of quieter working days to make their own purchases," said Biggs.
Some retailers are continuing to enhance their offerings online despite the holiday season being over. The ecommerce site Signbox won the Best Sign Company of 2011 award in the U.K. and continues to offer new products to its online consumer base, recently adding the Alumino line of floor stands to its ecommerce site.
