The Logan Tod and Company's 6th Annual Online Future Shopping Index predicted online shopping for holiday gifts in the 2012 Christmas season will exceed 2011 by 18-20 percent.

The survey found 26 percent of online shoppers in the U.K. plan to spend more online for Christmas gifts in December 2012 than they did this past month, marking the highest measurement of intent to shop online since the launch of the survey in 2006.

The CEO of Logan Tod and Company, Matthew Tod, attributed much of the increased intent to purchase from online stores to the growth of mobile shopping and tablet usage. More retailers are recognising new shopping behaviours and launching multichannel efforts to provide new purchasing options and reach tech-savvy shoppers.

The survey showed 14 percent of respondents used an iPad or other tablet to make a purchase in December 2011, and 15 percent purchased a Christmas item from a smartphone.

While shopping on their mobile devices, British shoppers can enjoy various discounts from online retailers thanks to sites like Discount Vouchers. This ecommerce site recently launched new discount codes for U.K. shoppers looking for brand name winter boots at an affordable price. Clothing and accessories from White Stuff, New Look and Marks and Spencer can now be purchased online with a code from the site.
